INTRODUCTION

Special Nature Reserve “Okanj Bara” is a Category I natural asset and is recognized as a nature asset of great importance. Special Nature Reserve “Okanj Bara” is located in Vojvodina, more precisely in Central Banat District, in close proximity of the left bank of Tisza river, to the North-East of the City of Zrenjanin. It is surrounded by villages of Elemir, Taraš, Kumane and Melenci. The Reserve is surrounded by local roadways Taraš-Elemir and Elemir-Melenci-Novi Bečej. The railway road Beograd-Kikinda runs along the eastern border of the reserve. The conservation area is located 15km from Zrenjanin, 60km from Novi Sad and 90km from Belgrade. Thanks to the proximity of the larger cities and roadways, a quick and easy access to the reserve is possible. “Okanj Bara” is located on territories of both Zrenjanin and Novi Bečej Municipalities.
